The new year starts with a great surprise for our newly founded e.V.: Almost 10,000 euros in dona\u00adtions have been collected within a few weeks! A huge thank you<\/strong> from the chil\u00addren of HOREMI and from us!!! to all donors!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Naume and Kenneth, the people in charge of HOREMI, can hardly believe their luck when they hear about the enor\u00admous sum. However, in Ugandan prag\u00admatic fashion, they quickly got their act together and imme\u00addi\u00adately rolled up their sleeves for the big school project: every euro donated to the school is imme\u00addi\u00adately invested in building mate\u00adrials and manpower.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new school building is growing out of the ground in no time at all. Thanks to the unex\u00adpect\u00adedly avail\u00adable funds, this is going much faster than planned and so the first lessons can prob\u00adably be held at the end of January! This is certainly still provi\u00adsional \u2014 while the floor is still being laid in one class\u00adroom, the little ones next door are learning their first English words \u2014 but the most impor\u00adtant point is that things are getting underway: The school building is finished!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this blog post<\/a> about the school project, you can see for your\u00adself how German dona\u00adtions are directly creating prospects for Ugandan chil\u00addren. The first and biggest step has been taken with the construc\u00adtion of the school. However, further funds are needed for equip\u00adment, teaching mate\u00adrials and, last but not least, teachers\u2019 salaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seven new sponsorships<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Another impor\u00adtant project has also made great progress in recent months: seven more chil\u00addren are delighted to have found a sponsor who will support them with a monthly dona\u00adtion \u2014 and thus support the entire HOREMI commu\u00adnity. Spon\u00adsor\u00adships (40 EUR\/month) are the finan\u00adcial back\u00adbone of HOREMI, so new spon\u00adsors are very welcome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Christmas in Uganda<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Around 80 percent of the Ugandan popu\u00adla\u00adtion are Chris\u00adtians, so Christmas is an impor\u00adtant festival. With the support of the Friends of HOREMI, Naume, Kenneth and the chil\u00addren were able to cele\u00adbrate Christmas with a more substan\u00adtial lunch and small gifts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A long-cher\u00adished wish is also coming true for three of our asso\u00adci\u00ada\u00adtion members: we are trav\u00adeling to Uganda in March to visit Naume, Kenneth and the current 28 HOREMI kids. We have a lot of ques\u00adtions and ideas in our luggage as well as some urgently needed items that are diffi\u00adcult or very expen\u00adsive to obtain locally (medi\u00adcines, computer hard\u00adware, cell phones, \u2026). So if you still have the penul\u00adti\u00admate iPhone, a discarded tablet or a note\u00adbook that is no longer quite as fast in the back of a drawer \u2014 please let us know!
