Whether cities, villages, private homes or front gardens — everything shines in an exuberant blaze of lights. There is no shortage of electricity at this time of year and we take it for granted that we always have enough.

But that is not the case. Especially not in other parts of the world. At the small aid organization HOREMI in Uganda, for example, which we support as a charity, the orphanage and school are only sparsely lit even at Christmas time. The only available sources of light are candles, torches and a few small solar lamps and flashlights. Old car batteries serve as charging stations for the few cell phones and the school’s small jukebox. There is no real power supply at all.

So far, only a few solar lamps have brought a little light into the darkness at HOREMI

Yes, light and shade are not evenly distributed on earth. But it is up to us to provide a little balance. And when, if not at Christmas, the festival of light and love? So what do you think about giving the gift of light at Christmas? Every euro helps HOREMI and its village neighbors to enjoy more light not only at Christmas, but all year round with electricity for their most basic needs. There is no shortage of solar energy. A sufficiently sized solar system with battery storage is available in Uganda from around 5,000 euros.

So join in and give the people at HOREMI a wonderful ray of hope this Christmas!
