HOREMI Junior School needs more space. The Ugandan school system provides for seven primary classes (P1 to P7), but so far HOREMI can only offer classes P1 to P4. An exten\u00adsion is needed to create space for P5 to P7.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even in the wealthy west, people who build a house rarely have the entire budget in the bank. In Uganda, there is often a lack of even the most minimal start-up capital. However, if this is avail\u00adable, then a house building project works a little differ\u00adently than in our country: as soon as the first Ugandan shillings are in the till, a few bricks are bought first. A few weeks (or months \u2026) later, more bricks. Then a few beams. Then construc\u00adtion steel and cement. And so on. And when there is enough mate\u00adrial in the yard, the work begins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kenneth, the HOREMI manager, has calcu\u00adlated that he needs around 30,000 of the hand\u00admade (!) bricks for the school exten\u00adsion. This is essen\u00adtial because the admin\u00adis\u00adtra\u00adtion stip\u00adu\u00adlates that oper\u00ada\u00adtors of a primary school must offer all seven grades within a certain period of time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many thou\u00adsands of foun\u00adda\u00adtion stones have now been laid: Thanks to the great will\u00ading\u00adness of the Friends of HOREMI to donate, quite a bit of the budget has already been collected and the Ugandan-prag\u00admatic construc\u00adtion project can begin: On June 17, the Friends of HOREMI trans\u00adferred a first tranche of Uganda shillings*, and on June 18 in the morning the first bricks were deliv\u00adered to the site. That\u2019s how it works at HOREMI!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
