After many weeks of stand\u00adstill, work can finally continue: workers have been back on site for several days now to complete the exten\u00adsion of the HOREMI Junior School.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The shell of the new school building was already completed in August and the roof was covered. Although the floors and plaster were still missing, the shell was already being used in part\u2014for example, for large meet\u00adings or exams. Now the remaining inte\u00adrior work can finally be tackled: Currently, all rooms are being given a solid concrete floor, the walls are being plas\u00adtered, and finally painted inside and out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Impro\u00advi\u00adsa\u00adtion is part of everyday life in Uganda. The shell of the building already served well during the students\u2019 major exams.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

This was made possible primarily by two generous indi\u00advidual dona\u00adtions. The entire proceeds of \u20ac900 raised by the volun\u00adteer oper\u00ada\u00adtors of the Welt\u00adladen fair trade shop in Hemmingen through the sale of home\u00admade cakes went to HOREMI. Another generous donor contributed an addi\u00adtional \u20ac1,000. HOREMI would like to express its special thanks to all of them!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2018s starting again: the floor is being concreted and further construc\u00adtion is progressing.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Unfor\u00adtu\u00adnately, construc\u00adtion had stalled due to increased costs that exceeded the previous budget. Another very dramatic cause of the delays was that Naume and the HOREMI team had to manage without Kenneth for weeks. He had been seri\u00adously injured in a car acci\u00addent, in which two of his passen\u00adgers were killed. Kenneth is also recov\u00adering only slowly; his injured leg is still not fully healed and cannot bear weight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kenneth is now devoting all his energy to the further devel\u00adop\u00adment of the HOREMI Junior School. The most impor\u00adtant goal at present, apart from completing the construc\u00adtion, is to register the school as a national educa\u00adtional insti\u00adtu\u00adtion. This nation\u00adwide regis\u00adtra\u00adtion is manda\u00adtory as soon as all seven elemen\u00adtary school grades are offered \u2013 which will be the case at HOREMI from the coming school year. This requires a wide range of require\u00adments to be met, not only with regard to the rooms and the size of the school grounds, but also with regard to the qual\u00adi\u00adfi\u00adca\u00adtions of the teachers and the type of equip\u00adment provided \u2013 including such exotic-sounding require\u00adments as the guar\u00adan\u00adteed absence of snakes (!) in the school toilets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thanks to the dona\u00adtions, the new school building will be fully oper\u00ada\u00adtional by 2026. This will increase the school\u2019s capacity and stabi\u00adlize its finan\u00adcial base. It is an impor\u00adtant step toward the long-term goal of economic inde\u00adpen\u00addence for the HOREMI School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And thanks to dona\u00adtions, the building is completely plas\u00adtered inside and out by the end of November.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
