There are many organizations in Uganda that claim to be charities and collect donations. Not all of them are serious and pursue truly charitable purposes. Since 2015 HOREMI is registered with the local authorities as a charitable “Community Based Organization, CBO” (Certificate of Registration) and recognized as a non-profit organization (Permit Of Operation).
Unlike nationwide “NGOs”, “CBOs” are smaller organizations that operate at the district level and below.
CBOs like HOREMI are registered by the district’s NGO Monitoring Committee. Registration requires the submission of bylaws, a project plan including budget, and a recommendation from the relevant NGO Monitoring Committee at the sub-county level.
HOREMI duly renewed and submitted the registration on October 31, 2023. The registration is valid for one year. The requirements for registration must be met and demonstrated again at each rotational renewal.
